  1. Despite the history of Poland always being divided, Krakow has managed to retain its autonomy, free and independent from foreign rulers.
  2. According to Polish myths, there lives a dragon under the Wawel Hill which requires regular offerings of livestock. Otherwise, the dragon will feed off local human inhabitants.
  3. Krakow is home to two Catholic saints who introduced the Divine Mercy devotion to Catholics all over the world. Namely, they are Saints Faustina Kowalska and Pope John Paul II.

Wadowice, Poland

  1. Before the First World War, Wadowice was annexed by Austria into the Kingdom of Galicia. After the dissolution of the monarchy, Wadowice became part of Poland.
  2. Wadowice was annexed by the Germans into the Third Reich when it was invaded by the Nazi in 1939. After the Second World War, it became part of Poland again.
  3. Wadowice is best known as the birthplace of the late Pope John Paul II. The Wojtyla family home is just beside the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
